These are some of the books that I recommend and use in treatment.
Thoughts and Feelings, Taking Control of Your Moods & Your Life by Matthew McKay, Martha Davis and Patrick Fanning
This is a workbook of cognitive behavioural techniques for worry control, depression, controlling anger and other issues. It has three chapters that teach basics of the cognitive reframing methods.
Reinventing Your Life by Jeffrey E. Young and Janet S. Klosko
This book explains how people can develop lifetraps (negative beliefs about themselves and their worth or identity) based on repeated early experiences that are dysfunctional. These lifetraps affect not just thinking (cognitions) but behaviours (because people act on what they believe).
Self-Esteem by Matthew McKay and Patrick Fanning
This book describes cognitive techniques for assessing, improving and maintaining your self-esteem.
When Perfect Isn't Good Enough by Martin M Antony and Richard P. Swinson
Has good discussions and examples of the perfection trap and how to get out of it.
When Anger Hurts, Quieting the Storm Within by Matthew McKay, Peter D. Rogers, and Judith McKay
This is a book for people who are concerned about their anger and how it makes them think, feel, and behave. It teaches many approaches to coping with anger by teaching how to express needs and wants in better and more effective ways.
